Notes from European Business Analysis conference – Solution design, Agile backlogs, Cloud and Data analysis

By | 05/10/2019

I had a great time at the European Business Analysis Conference the other week.  I wrote an article a few weeks ago about what I was looking forward to and why.

These are my notes on the following talks that I thought you might find useful.

They are on the following subject areas:

  1. Solution design
  2. Managing agile backlogs
  3. Impact of moving to a cloud environment on organisation
  4. Leveraging data analysis

I also presented on how design thinking can be used to make workshops more interactive and engaging.  See this article for more detail on what I covered.

Solution design – half day workshop by James Robertson & Suzanne Robertson, Principals, the Atlantic Systems Guild

Business solution design is about forming the requirements into solutions that work better, and motivate the people who use them.  This workshop covered techniques doing this.

Managing Agile BacklogsLynda Girvan, HoP for BA and Agile Coach, CMC Partnership Consultancy

Backlogs have become the ‘go to’ technique for managing and driving the work of agile teams. This presentation talks about how to create a good back log and how to avoid the many pitfalls that can cause problems.

Impact of organisation on moving to cloudGlenn Milton, Senior Business Analyst & Louisa Crowe, Senior Business Analyst, Aviva

What does Cloud migration mean for an organisation and how can this technical strategy be supported by business analysis?  Business analysts from Aviva went through the journey that Aviva took when migrating to cloud and what was involved.

Leveraging data analysis Rosanna Choy Ang, Lead Business Analyst, ThoughtWorks

Business analysis gathers information from different sources to get the full context of the business problem that needs to be solved. Every BA needs to know how to properly leverage it to understand the requirements and propose the right solution to address the needs.

These provide just a flavour of the subject areas that were covered.
